Pre-ACT Results: This lesson is extremely important. Please take time and great care when implementing this lesson as it will assist students in preparing for next year's ACT.

THESE ARE NOT ACTUAL ACT SCORES, they are predictive scores to help you know if you are on track to performing well on the ACT.

April 23rd Review for EOC and Block testing

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1oO8R0jaA7eZ0o760eWKKT--3bVD5aixg6yAu3ee-kzA/edit

This is the schedule for EOC testing next week. Go over with your students what these days will look like. For lunch on these days you will have your advisory students when they are not at lunch. We will not have specific plans to do so this can be study time, but they are not able to move on the advisory days during EOC. They will eat lunch with their advisory. So you will eat first lunch with the freshman advisory then go to advisory after lunch.

You can chose to do one of the Joyful Jays lesson if you would like

April 16th Joyful Day Choice

Advisory choice. Might want to go over with the students the block scheduling in a couple of weeks since they are freshman and won't have experience in what is going to look like.

April 9th Links Final Day

Link Crew will be coming in for their final time for the year. They won't have a planned lesson so whatever you want to do with them and your students is up to you.

April 2nd Testing

For the testing day tomorrow you will need to go down to the office and pick up your materials by 7:45 and then report to your location by 7:55. You will get a packet of students that will be in your assigned location. This will be a different list than your advisory since they are divided by alphabet. Once lunch is over the students will return to their testing location for study time that is supposed to be quiet time. Zach, Stuart and I will be reading the testing instructions in the testing areas everyone else will be support during the test taking. Here is the list of where students are to go tomorrow. This was sent to the students in an email, but since most don't check their emails you might want to ask at the beginning of your class 7th hour if the students know where to go. I also put the list of the location of each advisory teacher for tomorrow. Email me if you have any questions.

The roster is the first tab and the second tab is where you are supervising tomorrow.

March 26 ICAP video

Here’s the link to tomorrow's Freshman Advisory screencast.

The screencast walks students through the process of creating their Individual Career & Academic Plan (ICAP), which the state of Missouri requires that all students have on file by the end of their freshman year. The video is a little over 30 minutes long, so the biggest thing advisors need to know is to get it started as quickly as possible so they can get all the way through it before the bell rings.

All freshmen will be getting an email from me tomorrow with instructions on how to access the ICAP document, but if anyone has issues please have the advisors direct the students to me to get them resolved. I will be meeting with all freshmen in the weeks to come to go over their ICAPs and ensure they have been completed accurately.

March 5th P/T Conference Sheet

TODAY'S ADVISORY GOALS

1. Check in with students regarding their progress towards the goals they mapped out on paper at the beginning of the semester. Encourage them to note any progress or adjustments they may need to make in order to reach their goal.

2. Pass out the PT Conference Goals worksheet to students to complete. These were in your mailboxes this morning. Collect the forms at the end of advisory and turn them in to Lois Magnuson in the guidance office.

PT Conference Form                                            Goal Tracking Sheet

3. Remind students of the upcoming ACT and share the ACT Site Link with them. The ACT site has several preparation tools including the ACT Academy to help them prep for the ACT in April.

February 27th Speaker

There is Liberty Hour on Tuesday and a speaker in place of advisory on Wednesday. Here is the schedule for the day:

https://files.constantcontact.com/323850e0601/8bf8a23d-d395-43bf-b97c-bcea64961afc.pdf

Students go to 6th hour, check in and then go to the assembly. Students will sit in the same position they do for an assembly. You will take attendance before you go to the assembly.

Tuesday, February 12th - Gratitude

When the students write their letter they have to use their own paper. We will not be proving paper for them. Follow step four on how to get the letters to people.

February 5th Advisory Choice

Advisory Choice for class today. If you didn't finish the action plan last week you can finish it today if needed. Here is a link to different advisory choice options.

Advisory Choice

January 29th - Action Plan Check-In

Action Plan Steps:

  • Conference with each student individually using their Action Plan Sheet.
  • Pull up student grades. On the Action Plan sheet, make a notation of student’s current grade and review their action steps. (Consider having the student record the grade to increase student ownership.)
  • Remember to be encouraging and inquire if they need additional supports. Example: Have the student log in to LEH to view their calendar and schedule tutoring times if needed.

January 15th Panorama Survey

Panorama Survey
Implementation for students: January 15th, 2019 during Advisory

What is it?
The Panorama SEL Survey allows educational leaders to measure students’ and teachers’
perceptions of Social Emotional Learning, explore the results with interactive reports, and
provide educators with actionable strategies to build their students’ Social Emotional skills.

What is my access code?
Students will use their online student usernames as their access code. Access codes are case-sensitive. Students must type in their username in all lower-case

Next: Follow these directions to take the 2 embedded surveys.

January 9-11, 2019 Registration

Wednesday (1/9/2019)

Advisors present lesson on reviewing course enrollment forms:

After the presentations, please make sure the students have filled them out (have 7 credits worth of classes)--this includes alternatives (except for core classes). Students may work independently on these. Also, if a student doesn't have their form/has lost it, they can get a new form in the counseling office. If the student has a class question and needs to talk with their counselor, you may send them to the commons as a few counselors will be out there to answer questions during Advisory. Please only send a few students at a time.

Thursday (1/10/2019)

Advisors present lesson on entering courses in PS:

All of the information should be on the PowerPoint--please review before showing students as the students will probably have multiple questions as we are using a completely new system to select and enroll in courses this year! At the end of the presentation, students should be entering their course selections independently in the new system (not PowerSchool). Students may come to the commons to ask their counselor questions--please only send a few student at a time.

Friday (1/11/2019)

Advisors enrollment sheets and return to counseling

Please continue to allow students to enter their courses. Students may come to the commons to ask their counselor questions--please only send a few student at a time. At the end of the advisory or as student are finishing, they must hand in their course enrollment forms to their advisory teacher. Then all of the advisors should bring the forms to Lois Magnuson in the counseling office.

Goal Setting:
  • Goal Setting: Students will set goals and actions steps to achieve desired grades.
    • Students will fill out the form.
    • Students will take a picture of the completed goal setting paper.
    • Encourage students will text or email the image to guardian/home.
    • Teachers will collect and keep the forms.
    • On 1/29 visit with each student to see if they spoke with their teachers. This should not be a punitive conversation. Instead, encourage students to take ownership of their goals/actions by speaking with adults that can support them in achieving their goals!
    • Students will revisit the goals on 2/5, 3/5, 4/2, and 5/7
